Excelent horn, excelent customer service

The trumpet has a good sound, it's beautiful and I'm in love with it, but the valve keys tend to stick if they're not pressed completely level. If they're not pressed perfectly vertically, you can feel the friction on the cylinder and sometimes get stuck, and I oiled the valve. At least on my trumpet. It's something that can be solved by modifying the valve attack, but it would have been perfect.

Update:

I cleaned the valves and re-oiled them, and everything is in perfect working order. Love it! Thank you! I must add: exceptional customer service. Highly recommended!

Hi Orlando,

Sticky trumpet valves can be frustrating, especially when you love the instrument’s sound! Even with oiling, the issue you’re describing—friction or sticking when valves aren’t pressed perfectly level—often points to a few potential causes. Here are some insights and solutions, keeping it concise:

Valve Alignment: Misalignment between the valve and casing can cause friction. Check if the valve guides (the small white tabs on the valve) are worn or improperly seated.

Oil Application: Ensure you’re using the right valve oil (thinner oils like Al Cass or Hetman #2 work well for most trumpets) and applying it evenly. After oiling, work the valve up and down to distribute it. Too much or too little oil can cause issues.

Valve Technique: While you mentioned modifying the “valve attack,” practicing a light, centered press can minimize friction. Some players unconsciously angle their fingers, exacerbating stickiness.

Also, re-clean the valves and casings by wiping them dry with a clean cloth and re-applying the valve oil. There may be residue inside that's creating friction.

Please let me know if this works, or if you want a replacement.

Sincerely,
Steve Harkey

I haven’t played in about

I haven’t played in about 60 years so obviously I didn’t need a professional top line horn. This horn plays surprisingly well for these old lips, great appearance, good tone and valves are quick and don’t stick. It’s much better than the horn I used to play and excellent value . I would highly recommend this horn!!
